Tom Bonne

"The Think Tank is a way to delve into other research topics than your own PhD topic and to discuss them with your peers."

Tom is writing a PhD on the income tax treatment of non-profit associations, at Hasselt University. The current income tax treatment of non-profit associations is problematic for several reasons, especially when these entities also engage in economic activities. The aim of the research is to create a new legal framework. Tom is also involved in the courses Tax law and Corporate law at Hasselt University.

Marie DeCock

"The Think Tank is the perfect platform to combine legal research with creativity, socializing and taking original initiatives."

Marie is a Lecturer Administrative Law at Maastricht University (NL). Previously, she was a PhD Researcher at the Law Faculty of Hasselt University (BEL). In her dissertation, she examines the fact that inter-municipal associations are trapped between public and private law and between 'government' and 'undertaking'. Marie studied Law at Ghent University (LLM in 2017, "magna cum laude").

Theodoros Iliopoulos

"The Legal Idea is an enthusiastic forum that aims to bring together jurists involved in various fields of legal research and education.”

Theodoros is a postdoctoral researcher in energy and environmental law at Hasselt University, and a lawyer (Athens Bar Association). He has studied law at Hasselt University (PhD in Law, 2021), at Utrecht University (LLM Law and Economics, 2016) and University of Athens (LLB, 2014; LLM EU Law 2015). He has been honoured with several international research scholarships and awards, such as the GCET Award “Young Researcher” for 2020.
